Our Team
James Valiensi, PE, CEM
Clara McCarthy, PE
James has worked in the operations, maintenance, installation and design of HVAC system since 1985. Unlike most engineers, he started his career in owner-side facilities, gaining practical experience repairing and putting together HVAC systems and collaborating with design professionals. His hands-on experience combined with an engineering education is a rare combination and allows him to solve problems where other engineers cannot. Whether it’s a simple project with rooftop unit replacements or a complex central plant design, James’ approach results in cost effective solutions that work, are easily buildable, and simply maintainable.
Clara brings incredible energy and enthusiasm to CJ Enterprise. Her talent and skills are far beyond her limited experience as an engineer. Clara loves to solve problems and is persistent in finding solutions that best serve the client’s needs. She can visualize what the project will entail and what the finished product will look like because of her extensive time surveying mechanical systems in the field. Her excellent written and spoken communications turn complex ideas into easy-to-understand concepts. Clara brings a fresh and bold perspective to a mature industry and challenges old ideas to provide more modern designs.
Founders Letter
We measure success in terms of satisfied clients, completed work, and a healthy backlog of interesting projects. We are deeply involved in each project and provide a level of care that is difficult for larger firms to do. When we take on smaller jobs, we provide a level of service that is not common for the scale of the project. We treat every job as if it’s the most important job we have.
Teamwork and communication are the foundations of our firm. While internal communications are crucial to our very existence, external communication with our clients, partners and manufacturer’s representatives is just as important. We take the time to listen—to understand our clients’ needs, priorities, and concerns before we act. We remain open, transparent and honest about the client’s project. We keep them informed of where we’re at and what to expect next. As a small team, we keep ourselves informed too; we meet, plan, talk, and cover each other. There are no gaps to fill at CJE.
Many of the projects we’ve taken on have introduced us to new markets and building types, which has been both refreshing and rewarding. In prior roles, our work was often limited to narrow client types and repetitive project scopes. At CJ Enterprise, our horizons are wide open, and we’re intentionally building a practice that values variety, challenge, and thoughtful engineering. Drawing on decades of experience, we are able to apply proven engineering approaches across a broader range of project types, expanding our capabilities while maintaining the level of quality and reliability our clients expect.
To every client who has taken a chance with us this past year, thank you for giving us the opportunity to show you what our small (but mighty!) team can do. We are proud of what we have been able to accomplish and look forward to many more years of successful work together.
